I lead through substance, not process. I take organisations into complex transitions by getting to the root of the problem: the system, the dependencies and the behaviour underneath, and turning that into a direction that holds under pressure.
My background spans resource value chains, strategic dependencies and the transformation of complex systems, from the circular economy to the science and higher education system. I work across science, policy and practice, nationally and at European level. Pragmatic idealist: committed and evidence-based.
What I bring
Getting to the root
I dig until I find the real pattern, not the surface symptom: where a system is stuck, where resources and dependencies turn into risk, and what it would actually take to shift it.
People and behaviour
Trained in social psychology. I work with how decisions really get made, and how change takes root or stalls, not just what the plan says.
Delivery under pressure
Leading multi-stakeholder, public-private programmes; holding direction and accountability when ambitions, resources and risks come under strain. Calm in crisis, sharp on the question that matters.
Selected work
Transition Strategist, Transformation of the Science System (KIN/NWO), since 2025
Editor-in-chief of a national analysis of how to transform Dutch higher education and research at system level, with KNAW, UNL, OCW and others.
Transition Strategist, Circular Economy (Rotterdam School of Management / Het Groene Brein / Versnellingshuis), 2011 to present
Led a twelve-year transition programme (€1.2m) with accountability to board and funders; later led public-private programmes and authored a policy brief cited in parliament.
Programme Director, Phosphorus Recycling Europe (EPEA), 2009 to 2012
Strategic direction in a complex European multi-stakeholder field; contributed to the Dutch Phosphate Chain Agreement and the EU Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe.
Credit Crisis Strategist (ABN AMRO), 2008
Crisis team during the financial crisis; co-developed MoneyYou, launched within weeks to stem capital flight.
What I’m looking for
I’m at my strongest where the mandate is clear and accountability is well defined, and where the work is the strategy itself: a role in which I lead through content and take real responsibility for direction. The challenges I’m drawn to are complex transitions where systems, resources and behaviour all matter, and the stakes are real.
